Ghosting: Powerful force or unnecessary distraction?i2 Office Mayfair

Ghosting - subtly casting doubt in the minds of the evaluators over the solutions, approaches and track records of competitors (without naming them) - is a technique sometimes used to emphasise bidders' own strengths.

How do we know whether or not ghosting works in persuading customers to choose you over the competition?

Our presenter for this fascinating session, Ian Sherwood, has  carried out a substantial body of research on the subject and has agreed to share his findings with APMP members and their guests. Our beautiful May venue in London's Mayfair has been generously provided by i2 Office.

Using real life examples from the worlds of politics, advertising and bidding, you will gain insights into current thinking on the effectiveness of ghosting strategies and tactics and learn how to apply caution too.

Ghosting is considered a powerful tool, but must be used wisely and well. We will range over both the advantages and challenges of its use, including:

  • What is ghosting and what are effective ghosting techniques?
  • The case for the defence – ghosting is an effective tool in the writer’s armoury
  • The case against – ghosting is an unnecessary distraction
  • Feedback from ghosting survey
  • A practical demonstration of an approach to uncover ghosting opportunities with an opportunity for delegates to participate
  • Common pitfalls

In addition to taking away some useful ghosting rules, you'll have the opportunity to swap ghosting stories and listen to more from the ghosting survey - winner to be announced on the night
