Topic: Listing client as reference in response to their RFP?
Posted: Friday, September 18, 2009 4:57:20 PM
For me, I'd say it depends on the type of work you are doing. If it is relevant to what you are proposing on and the client really likes what you are doing, then I'd say yes. What would be even stronger though is if you could get a letter from your client that talks about how great your work is, and include that as a graphic.

I've actually been trying to go more electronic now. I keep everything on my network until it is awarded, then filed it off on CD or DVD, using the Read-Write kind, so that I can have multiple proposals on one. It actually works very well to do this and allows me to travel with just one CD/DVD rather than lots of paper.

There's a great website called "Acquisition Central." I strongly recommend checking it out - www.acquisition.gov. I've attached a link to a deskguide on CPAF contracts you might find helpful.

Topic: Searchable Databases

There are quite a few options out there. One that I've seen uses MS Sharepoint, using a variety of key words for the program, which individuals can then go in and add their own information. The real issue with any database, though, is the quality of the information going in. The initial data entry can be time consuming to make sure it is complete and accurate, but once you have your data in, then it can be a very worthwhile tool.

Over 20 years ago, I took a summer job as a technical editor/proofreader, figuring I wouldn't enjoy it. Within about 2 weeks of starting my summer job, I worked on my first proposal, and haven't looked back since.

The one thing I remember was the way in which we produced proposals back then - color printing??? We were lucky to have a color cover because of the time needed to produce it using the 4-color print process.

I'm with you. I started in the mid 80s as a technical editor. And yes - I am convinced that I am crazy, but I love the job!!!!
