Comparing Granny Smith and Red Delicious Apples: A Comparative Look at Commercial and Federal Proposal Management

Mike Walsh, CF APMP
Senior Communications and Pursuit Strategist, Ernst & Young

Most people in our profession think comparing the commercial and federal proposal processes is like comparing apples and oranges. Mike will challenge you to look at it slightly different, because upon closer examination comparing federal and commercial proposals is more like comparing Granny Smith apples to Red Delicious apples. Mike will present an interactive insider's look at the (perceived and actual) similarities and differences in commercial and federal proposal management. Then as a group we will identify the challenges and pitfalls we experience in our respective processes and then explore and share potential solutions across the FED/COMM divide. Attendees will come away with a greater appreciation for what the "other side” does, what similarities exist among everyone in our profession and a little less reluctance to pursue opportunities just because they are on the other side of the FED/COMM divide.

Mike Walsh, CF APMP, is a Senior Communication and Pursuits Strategist (CaPS) with Ernst & Young's Financial Services Office (FSO) CaPS team and President of the APMP Nor’easters Chapter. He has more than 7 years of experience managing proposals for the financial services, state and federal government. He leads strategic pursuits and pursuit teams, developing win themes and proposal messaging. Prior to joining BD, he had more than 10 years of experience in training management, development and delivery in the US Coast Guard, financial and defense industries.
