APMP Renames Annual Industry Award in Honor of John Elder
APMP recognizes industry titan’s contributions

Washington, DC, September 6, 2012 – The Association of Proposal Management Professionals® (APMP®) Executive Committee has agreed to rename the APMP Insight Award to the John Elder Journal Award, in recognition of the former Managing Editor of the APMP Journal who passed away on August 22, 2012 following a long illness. The new John Elder Journal Award will continue to recognize the best article published in a single year in APMP’s Journal of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP Journal).

Mr. Elder is best known to APMP for his volunteer contributions as Managing Editor of APMP’s Journal. He was also made an APMP Fellow, the association's highest honor, designed to provide recognition to individuals who have made significant contributions to new business acquisition, their profession and their association. In addition, he managed Proposal Production for CACI from 1999 until 2008, when he had to retreat from full-time employment because of illness.

"It is appropriate and humbling for APMP’s Executive Committee to rename this award to honor John Elder,” said Rick Harris, Executive Director of APMP. "For more than ten years, Mr. Elder was the face of the Journal. He was its driving force, guiding light and mentored so many other Journal volunteers through the years.”

The first APMP John Elder Journal Award will be presented at the APMP Annual Awards Celebration, during APMP’s Bid & Proposal Con 2013, on Thursday, May 30, 2013, in Atlanta, GA.
