APMP Launches New APMP Certification Branding and Designation Program
New Logos and Certification Designations More Clearly Define APMP Industry Members’ Achievements


Washington, DC, October 25, 2013 — APMP®, the association of record for proposal management, bid, capture, business development and graphics professionals, is launching a campaign to officially brand the new APMP certification logos and related professional designations (post nominal letters).

In October, the APMP Board of Directors approved new, more intuitive APMP certification designations, developed in a collaborative effort by a special subcommittee of the Board. The new designations clearly and logically define certification post nominal letters. For example, in the past the letter "F” represented "Foundation” and also "Fellows,” which caused confusion.

The new certified member and Fellows designations are listed below, with the text in parenthesis representing the meaning of each designation.

Additional reasons for the APMP Board certification designation changes include:

  • Clearly showing the level at which certification has been earned and replacing the ambiguous "Accredited Member,” which could connote any level. For example "CF” is "certified at the Foundation level,” "CP” is "certified at the Practitioner level,” and "CPP” is "certified at the Professional level.”
  • Dropping the dot between the designation and APMP (i.e., "AM.APMP” was changed to "CF APMP”) so that social media sites would better recognize the designation. Many sites saw the dot as a period between two words.
  • Fully recognizing APMP Fellows, by spelling out the honor as a word after the designation.  For example, "AF.APMP” was changed to "CF APMP Fellow.” Many people used "AF” when they had not earned Fellows status. 

"A sub-committee of the Board of Directors reviewed the APMP certification designation. They considered years of feedback from members who did not like the old designations, researched other professional associations to see how they presented designations, spoke with many members who were part of the original designations and looked for ways to eliminate the confusion that has followed the original designations for years,” said Rick Harris, Executive Director of APMP. 

He added that the designation changes were to keep pace with the global demand for APMP Certification and to mature the brand for decades.

APMP’s Board of Directors also recently approved renaming the industry’s only certification program to "APMP Certification” instead of "APMP Accreditation.” The program was renamed to more clearly reflect the vernacular used by the majority of the APMP global membership, individuals are "certified” and organizations are "accredited.” A corresponding suite of APMP Certification logos for each level of certification was developed and began circulation in May 2013.

APMP will continue implementation of the new program name and designations, in a comprehensive marketing campaign through correspondence with members and via An APMP Certification brochure reflects the changes and will be used to for future program promotion. APMP members will be given until January 2015 to fully integrate the new designations. APMP staff will work with the membership during 2014 to update designations in member profiles listed on
