APMP Completes Record-breaking Conference
Association Celebrates its 25th Birthday with a Year of New Records and Association Firsts

Washington, DC, June 3, 2014 – More than 800 professionals from every part of the proposal and business development lifecycle were in Chicago, IL, USA last week for a record-setting APMP Bid & Proposal Con 2014. It was the largest number of professionals that have ever attended the annual APMP® conference in the 25 year history of the association.

APMP Bid & Proposal Con 2014, held May 26 – 29, 2014 at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers in Chicago attracted 806 attendees and set a new standard for future conferences. 

"You couldn’t have asked for a bigger crowd and a more positive reception than we received in Chicago,” said Rick Harris, Executive Director, APMP. "Feedback from industry attendees has been incredibly positive. By all accounts, the Association raised its own bar on what future APMP Conferences can and should be,” said Mr. Harris.

APMP CEO Colleen Jolly, CPP APMP Fellow, kicked the conference off with an announcement that APMP is launching a new, refreshed logo. "The APMP Board of Directors has approved a new, updated logo that reflects the energy and global growth of APMP today, as well as incorporates branding from the APMP Bid & Proposal Con annual conference,” she said. Incorporation of the new logo is being transitioned into APMP materials over the next several months.

Conference attendees chose from fifty-seven conference sessions and APMP pre-conference workshops that each played to crowded rooms. 

The Association made a decided effort to invest more in its keynote addresses than ever before, and the attendee feedback was enthusiastic. Linda Stone, the first female executive to work for the CEOs of Apple and Microsoft, delivered a thought-provoking presentation called Our Minds, Our Machines to open APMP’s Bid & Proposal Con 2014. The second day keynote was JD Gershbein, Huffington Post author and the nation’s leading authority on how to maximize your relationships and get more exposure and business from your LinkedIn account. APMP CEO Colleen Jolly kicked off the final day with a Keynote that challenged attendees to find their passion to be able to realize work and life goals. 

APMP established another record by certifying the largest group of professionals at an APMP Conference, with 61 proposal industry professionals achieving the APMP Foundation Level Certification. It was also the first time in the association’s history that all the Practitioner Completion Workshop participants left their sessions having completed their Proposal Practitioner Assessment Questionnaires (PPAQ).

The third annual APMP Awards Celebration set an attendance record with 463 participants eclipsing last year’s mark by more than 150. The 2014 class of APMP Fellows was also inducted at the Awards Celebration with EY’s Melissa DeMaio, Microsoft’s Vicki Griesinger and Selex ES’ Mark Seaman earning this year’s honors.

Other APMP Bid & Proposal Con 2014 news making events included announcing that APMP’s flagship publication, the APMP Journal won the prestigious Association Media & Publishing’s Excel Award for best Journal redesign. APMP-TV launched and recorded 15 sessions, coming soon to all those throughout the world who were unable to attend the conference, through pay-per-view later this year. The APMP Commercial Committee hosted its first-ever networking reception, with more than 100 in attendance, and the APMP Procurement Improvement Committee (PIC) used the conference as a platform to launch a new survey, which will provide new insight into government procurement practices.

Additionally, for the first time ever, all conference evaluations were collected on the new, widely-received, easy-to-use APMP mobile app, which enables users to view a conference calendar, rate the sessions and presenters and add personal notes.
