APMP Remembers Steve Jensen
APMP Friend and 16 Year Volunteer Remembered for Wit, Dedication and Industry Commitment

Washington, DC, February 16, 2015 – The Association of Proposal Management Professionals® (APMP®) remembers Steve Jensen CF APMP Fellow who served in the APMP Lone Star Chapter (TX, USA) from 1992 until his passing on February 14, 2015.   He passed away from cancer.

Mr. Jensen was a long-time APMP member and volunteer at the last 16 APMP Annual Conferences (Bid & Proposal Cons).  Since 1997 he was largely responsible for evaluating speaker proposals and laying out the APMP conference curriculum.  He took on this enormous task, often single-handed, for no-pay and almost no recognition.  He would tell you that he preferred it that way.

"There is no way to measure how much Steve, and the countless hours he spent as an APMP volunteer, has contributed to the success of APMP’s Bid & Proposal Con,” said Rick Harris, APMP Executive Director.  "While other volunteers have come and gone, Steve was the one constant.  This association, the proposal community and all of his industry friends will miss him terribly.”

At last year’s Bid & Proposal Con 2014 in Chicago, Mr. Jensen stepped into the spotlight and on-stage for the first time to take a bow for his 16 years of volunteer service.  He was given a huge ovation from the hundreds of presenters and speakers he helped mentor over the years.   He was also featured in spring/summer 2014 issue of The APMP Journal in an article called Behind The Curtain.

After graduating from Rider University, he became a newspaper reporter before transitioning into the proposal industry. Mr. Jensen was most recently the senior proposal manager of CenturyLink Technology Solutions.  He also spent 14 years as the director of bid management for Acision LLC in Plano, TX.

Steve was a true proposal professional in every sense of the word. Steve's contributions to APMP set a very high bar and an excellent example of genuine commitment to the organization. Members of the Strategic Proposal team and I had the opportunity to work with Steve on a proposal last year and he demonstrated the utmost professionalism, even under some fairly challenging circumstances You will be greatly missed Steve.

So sad to hear of Steve's passing. I had the pleasure of receiving his always friendly, always supportive communications about Bid & Proposal Con presentations over many years - chasing me for (I confess it, sometimes overdue) content in the most charming way possible! And he was delightfully friendly company at the events themselves. A huge loss to our profession, and my thoughts are with his family.

For many years, Steve and his team(s) produced the signage for our annual conference, which was a large undertaking by any measure. I still have the one his team created for the Professional Interviews the year I earned my certification. As a former conference co-chair, I appreciated the detail and time and attention he gave to making us look good. I also remember the last time I crossed paths with him moving from one conference session to the next - tough to forget that smile!
