Ratchet Up the Relevance and Quality of Proposals Using Style Guides and Editing Checklists

Friday, May 27, 2016 | 3:50 PM - 4:50 PM | Commonwealth

Marlane Kayfes
Do you feel like you are staring at a pile of rocks when your proposal team submits their contributions? Integrating an editing checklist into your arsenal can ratchet up the relevance and clarity of your proposals and enhance your firm’s professional reputation. This session considers the difference between style guides and editing checklists and how a checklist can work miracles with proposals—and perhaps win rates. Attendees will brainstorm how to create buy-in for using this important quality assurance technique. Afterward, participants will collaboratively create and use editing checklists and, from a pile of rocks, build a castle.

Marlane Kayfes is a champion of editing checklists. For decades, she has created and improved technical documents, including proposals, grant applications, reports, manuscripts, marketing materials and training/learning materials. She has a B.S. in professional writing and an M.S. in occupational technology and has worked in the oil and gas, academic medicine and research, and news media industries. Marlane currently is a senior technical writer/consultant with Shea Writing and Training Solutions in Houston.
