Transition initiatives are amongst the hardest to bid and manage. The eventual contractor may be taking over a live business function, so the client must be convinced that the winner will not ‘drop the ball’.  There are all the normal change challenges of people, process and technology, but transition projects also require us to manage an outgoing system as well !  If that wasn’t complicated enough, the larger bids often require consortium bidding.

In this presentation, Paul explores how we build trust through our writing. He discusses the activities that our bid team needs to perform before we can begin writing to the customer.  Paul draws upon his experience to share the lessons you’ll want to know before starting your next transition bid.

This presentation will appeal to bid writers and managers, but also a much wider audience. The issues that Paul discusses are relevant to Capture Managers, Sales Managers and anyone who gets involved in bid review and strategy.  Given the wide stakeholder groups that transition bids touch, there will be something for everyone in this presentation.

About your presenter:  Paul Hutchings has been there before.  He’s headed up two multi-billion pound transition bids and has over 20 years’ relevant experience.

Previously, Paul lead Thales’ successful bid for a subsection of the Eurofighter Typhoon military aircraft. That bid has provided decades of revenue for Thales. More recently, Paul led the AQUILA consortium of Thales, NATS & Babcock for the £1.3bn Project MARSHALL (military air traffic management) pursuit. He was pivotal in forming the consortium and aligning the core competencies of its members. Paul led the team through a successful downselection to the final three bidders. The contract has yet to be awarded.

With his extensive bidding experience, Paul was the second UK national to achieve the Shipley Capture Expert Capture Manager CECM accreditation. He is currently a Non-Executive Director at Amplio Software, an independent reseller of Bids & Proposals Software. Paul is a Chartered Marketer, Chartered Director and a fellow of the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM).
