Customizing Federal Proposal Best Practices for a Dynamic Small Business

Thursday, May 26, 2016 | 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM | Republic

Claire McGarry
Theodora Petrakis
In the world of federal contracting, implementing business and proposal development best practices can be challenging for small businesses. This presentation reviews how staff can implement the essential process pieces that have the biggest impact, leaving out the "extras" that distract from the end goal. From capture management to bid decisions to proposal reviews, this session reviews streamlining processes and adapting them for the smaller, fast-paced opportunities that most small businesses pursue. An emphasis is placed on federal contracting, focusing on ensuring that the adapted processes keep federal requirements and the stages in the federal procurement process in mind.

Claire McGarry is a proposal manager at SciMetrika, a fast-growing, health-focused small business serving federal clients. She has worked to win contracts for the firm since 2010, when she shifted her focus from population health research to business development. She holds a B.A. in International Studies from the University of North Carolina and is currently pursuing an Executive Masters of Public Health in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the same institution.

As vice president of business development, Theodora Petrakis leverages her extensive federal government and healthcare sector knowledge to increase SciMetrika's service offerings and cultivate relationships with SciMetrika’s clients, including FDA, NIH and CMS. Building on a 30-year career, Ms. Petrakis has served in executive leadership roles for both large and small federal government contractors. Her key contributions have included cultivating and solidifying business relationships, evolving marketing strategies, developing short- and long-term growth plans and overseeing and growing project portfolios.
