Charlie Divine to Retire After Seven Years as Certification Director and 47 Years in the Industry

(Washington, DC) — April 10, 2018 – Charlie Divine, CPP APMP Fellow and Certification Director since 2011 for the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP®) announced today that he is retiring from the association.
Celebrating a 30-year career as a bid and proposal professional for AT&T and then serving as APMP’s Certification Director for seven years, Divine will step down from APMP effective April 30, 2018.
A veteran of 23 Bid & Proposal Cons, and someone who trailblazed APMP’s early efforts to recognize commercial/business professionals in the industry, Charlie will most be remembered for what he did with APMP certification since he took over as Certification Director in 2011.
“Charlie is one of the biggest reasons that APMP has over 8,000 members today,” said Rick Harris, Executive Director of APMP. “When we first hired Charlie seven years ago, APMP had only 3,300 members. His work on high profile certification advancements such as the APMP Foundation Level Exam refresh, his coordination and authorship of the APMP Body of Knowledge and its Study Guide and finally his co-authorship of Writing Professional Bids & Proposals for Dummies book with Neil Cobb, helped prospective APMP members find the association. Certification is APMP’s number one-member driver and Charlie helped make that so,” he said.
Divine is known to almost all in the bid and proposal profession as someone who worked tirelessly to advance the profession and increase the professionalism of all those in it.
"There isn’t a single person in this industry who has done more to jump start careers, offer professional advice and teach people how to be a better bid and proposal professional more than Charlie Divine has,” said Jamie Ninneman, Chair of APMP.
He will be retiring from APMP as one of its most decorated professionals having achieved Professional Certification – one of only 155 people in the world to have done so. He is also an APMP Fellow and received the association’s highest honor, the Harold C. McRae Founders Award in 2016 for his outstanding work in APMP certification.
Divine was also instrumental in working through complex issues like certification record-keeping to help track an APMP member's progress through their professional development journey and authored a new APMP Certification CEU plan that will encourage more members to stay in the industry longer, further contributing to the professionalism in the industry.
"I am excited to have been part of APMP. Not only have we enjoyed tremendous growth in APMP membership and programs but bid and proposal professionals now receive greater recognition for their contributions to winning business. APMP has a great team in place and the best is still to come,” said Divine. “Finally, I would like to thank the all members of APMP for making this one of the most rewarding times in my career.”
